Emptiness of Sadness and Emptiness of Happiness
What makes you not a Buddhist? This path breaking book by His Eminence Dzongsar Jamyang Khentse Rimpoche opened up my eyes to the more user friendly ways in which complicated Buddhist Philosophy and essence of Buddhist teachings can be approached and accessed by ordinary lay people.
Further more, my insatiable curiosity to get hold of an instant formula to realize the essence of Buddhist Practice subsuming universal Human dilemma forced me to undertake the Preliminary and foundation practice of Mahamudra Teachings for the last 18 years.
This quest to load myself with empowerment, oral transmissions and Guided Teachings on Prajna paramita based "Chod" practice as per Dudjom Tersar tradition and Togden Shacha Shri to cite my regular practice kept me wanting more...
I just felt like I was more confused and less prepared to face the mounting psychological, spiritual, emotional and economical and work place challenges of a modern day Corporate Executive.
The more books I read on Buddhism from different vehicles such as Hinayana, Mahayana Tantrayana, I found myself ill equipped and unprepared to undertake and upkeep those vows and strict practices, Sadhanas, rituals, chanting and solitary retreat for many years.
Been reading books on Taosim by Mantak Chia and also taken lessons on Art of living foundation course and Simplified Kundalini yoga (Kaya Kalpa) Tamil Siddha tradition and offshoot of Kashmir Shaivism.
Really exhausted and fed up trying almost everything that I could lay my hands on but I was not heading anywhere, then, I asked myself what is the use of such teachings and practice if the results are not tangible and instant.
But, upon having read a book titled" The supreme Source" Dzogchen Semde Kunjed Gyalpo by Chogyal Namkhai Norbu and Adriano clemente recently, I have begun to understand that life is not as difficult and complicated as it is manifested.
I am particularly attracted to the ten principles of absences called " Medpa bcu" described below:
1.There is no view on which to meditate.
2.There is no commitment, or samaya, one has to keep.
3.There is no capacity for spiritual action one has to seek.
4.There is no mandala one has to create.
5.There is no initiation one has to receive.
6.There is no path one has to tread.
7.There are no levels of realization(bhumis) one has to achieve through purification.
8.There is no conduct one has to adopt or abandon.
9.From the beginning, self arising wisdom has been free of obstacles.
10.Self perfection is beyond hope and fear.
I am convinced that following and implementing above ten principles are very simple and easy for any reasonable human being to adopt and reap immeasurable benefits. I urge my worthy well wishers to try once.
I have reached the final 3 chapters of the book and already feeling a sense of deep meaning in life as I am able to ground more frequently with the Supreme Source and perceive Emptiness of sadness and Emptiness of Happiness.
May the Supreme Teaching and self arising wisdom pervade the universe and multiverse.
i recently read abou tthe book "the supreme source" too and was really intrigued. I am new to dzogchen (and tibetan buddhism in general to be honest). You had 18 years of study and preparation in buddhism before being inspired by 'the supreme source'. I wonder if the book is easy to understand without having a deep knowledge of tibetan/dzogchen/nyingma buddhist history/terminology or preliminary practices. Thank you for your writing.
